The Benefits of Meditation
The mental, emotional, physical and spiritual benefits are well worth the effort and time we put into creating a regular meditation practice. When we feel as though meditation is too difficult, we can remember that it is a practice we must commit to. The more we practice, the easier it becomes. Over time, the results become apparent to us. Some of these results are immediate, and we can enjoy them right away, making us more likely to want to continue practicing. When we consider all of the many benefits, we’re more likely to make meditation a regular part of our recovery program.
Some immediate benefits of meditation are increased feelings of tranquility, calm, wellness and peace. We feel less bothered by the things that once upset us. We feel less stressed out by things that once caused us tremendous worry and turmoil. We find ourselves reacting to conflict and other stressors with more ease and grace. We find ourselves responding to other people, and any issues that come up in our relationships, with more clarity and stillness. We can find that meditation helps us overcome intense feelings of depression and anxiety.
Meditating helps us to connect with our intuition and to see the big picture in everything around us. We become less phased by the little things, the distractions, the noise, clutter and superficiality. We find it easier to wade through the surface of things, to see the deeper purpose and meaning within. We’re less tripped up on the small, insignificant things in our lives and find it easier to focus on what really matters. We see through the illusions of our fears, and we heal our subconscious minds on a deep level.
As we develop stillness and tranquility within us, everything in our lives begins to improve. We see huge changes in our interpersonal relationships, how we handle stress, and how we go about our daily lives. We start to sleep better. Patterns of overthinking and insomnia start to fade. Our appetite improves, as the anxiety and worry that kept us from eating start to dissipate. Our energy levels balance out and normalize, and we feel less tired and depleted. We’re able to tackle our many obligations and responsibilities with more ease. We flow through our routines more easily. We now have more energy to commit to our self-care and spiritual practices. We feel more uplifted and energized to spend time with loved ones.
The many benefits of meditation can be the motivation we need to make it a regular practice, and considering those benefits can convince us not give up on our practice prematurely.
